An ISO 9001 Quality Management System approved company who have incorporated Lean Manufacturing principles, Company Director Ryan Tierney and his team view Lean as a method for removing non-value added activities from a process in order to add more value to their customers. He has overseen the implementation of Lean Manufacturing to their production and actively shares their recipe for success through his book and by hosting tours of their plant.

As a result, they established a culture of continuous improvement. This means they constantly improve their products and services in order to provide the best service and clinically excellent products to as many patients as possible around the world.

With the company’s enviable reputation and status as a leader in Lean Manufacturing, Beam were delighted to be selected to provide a new weld fume LEV system for their manufacturing facility.

Beam listened to the client and took note of Ryan’s philosophy “The key to getting Lean to take root in your organisation is to create a culture of continuous improvement where every single person in the organisation is committed to small daily incremental improvements”.

With this in mind Beam designed a system around the client’s needs and utilised elements of the former system for a seamless installation which is fully integrated to the new Lean production line.

• Each welding bay is fitted with a self-balancing LEV weld fume extract arm perfectly sized and positioned to provide effective removal of harmful welding fumes during production.
• The arms are self-balancing by means of an exo-parallelogram design counterbalanced with gas-struts. This ensures the arms are 100% free of internal obstructions and guarantees excellent positional stability.
• When welding commences, Beam’s Smart Sensing and Control Technology provides instantaneous fume extraction when and where needed at that moment.
• The unique design of the welding arms combined with the precision flow control provide a larger capture envelope to ensure harmful weld fumes are removed.
• The Smart System recognises when welding has stopped and is programmed to clear any residual fume in the welding bay.
• The extract fan is housed in a galvanised steel acoustic enclosure outside the building. It is extremely quiet and does not disturb the peaceful countryside setting of their production factory.

• The fully automatic operation of the extract system does not require any input from the operator so they can concentrate on their task at hand for optimum productivity.
• The greater control envelope of our arms means that less repositioning is required making for a more efficient system.
• With the integration of the Smart controls, the extract fan uses up to 70% less power providing on-going energy and emissions savings.
• During the heating season, the Smart system reduces the loss of expensive indoor heated air.
