Beam were proud to install a Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) system for this modern renovation & extension project in Co. Mayo.

A home with a view

Aisling and Shane Morley are the proud owners of a stylish lake-view home in the West of Ireland. Previously a traditional Irish bungalow owned by Aisling’s grandmother, the couple undertook a major renovation and extension project to build their dream family home. With views overlooking the lake and living right next door to Aisling’s parents, the goal was to build a forever home.

About the project

When undertaking such a big project, the couple understood the importance of incorporating systems which would last. With a strict budget, Shane became the on-site handyman and did most of the building work himself, sourcing all materials locally. Having previously worked for a local building supplier for over 10 years, Shane was able to put his hand to everything from flooring and insulating to painting and decorating. Anything he couldn’t do himself was outsourced to family and friends who all work in local trades. Nonetheless, it only took 10 months for this house to become a home. A modern bungalow with 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and an open-plan living, kitchen and dining area.

It was then Aisling’s chance to showcase her keen eye for detail with the interior design. A bright open-plan kitchen allows the sunlight to beam through the windows, giving great views of the lake in the main areas of the house. In the bedrooms and bathroom Aisling incorporated bold colours to create a sense of warmth and homeliness.

A highly effective ventilation solution

Built to airtight standards with high insulation levels, the couple needed to provide adequate ventilation in the home to prevent condensation and mould growth as well as helping the indoor air quality. After much research, the couple decided to install a Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) system from Beam.
The system is designed to provide fresh, filtered air into the home by removing all pollutants and insects during the filtering process – ideal for ensuring any insects around the lake did not pollute their clean home environment!

We had the Heat Recovery Ventilation System installed by our local Beam Distributor, Paul Morahan. He was brilliant. We had not originally budgeted for MVHR but as we got to the finishing stages we figured it was well worth it as we had spent good money on insulation and a heating system - we wanted it all to work efficiently. With MVHR there’s constant fresh air, the house never feels stuffy and there’s no smells. We are delighted with it and would highly recommend!”
