Ensuring Safe and Effective Ventilation for Premier Inn Dublin

In a large hotel, such as the Premier Inn in Dublin, adequate ventilation is essential. During the construction process, the project contractor, Collen Construction, contacted BEAM to supply FireSafe Air Bricks for the hotel.

Air Bricks Offer Low Resistance to Airflow

Air Bricks help promote the flow of air through a building. They are usually installed in the external walls of hotels, apartment buildings, homes, and other buildings to help aid ventilation and reduce humidity that can eventually lead to mould and poor indoor air quality.

The Premier Inn in Dublin has installed BEAM’s FireSafe Air Bricks, which offer low resistance to airflow. FireSafe Air Bricks allow fresh air to be drawn into the ducting for the mechanical ventilation system and stale air to be extracted outside, ensuring building safety and efficient airflow.

High Resistance to Fire with FireSafe Air Bricks

Traditionally, Air Bricks are constructed from clay, cast iron and plastic, with plastic being the most popular choice. However, in recent years following the Grenfell Tower Fire, there has been a greater emphasis on fire safety in high rise buildings.

FireSafe Air Bricks from BEAM are designed to provide high resistance to fire

Technical Guidance Document B (Ireland) states: "appropriate consideration should be given in the selection of materials or systems used for the external wall, or elements fixed to the external wall, to reduce the risk of fire spread over the face of the wall."

UK Fire Safety Regulations state: “All materials which become part of an external wall or specified attachment of a relevant building are of European Classification A2-S1, d0 or A1, classified in accordance with BS EN 13501-1:2007+A1:2009.”

Our FireSafe Air Bricks are constructed from A1 sheet metal and powder coated to A2-S1 making them fully compliant with regulations.

BEAM’s FireSafe Air Bricks are available in a number of different sizes and colours to suit most building styles. There are also bezelled trim adaptors available for buildings with exterior cladding instead of a brickwork finish.

We were really impressed with the FireSafe Air Bricks from BEAM. Their low airflow resistance and critically, high resistance to fire made these an important component in delivering our latest hotel project. Our Operatives onsite found the installation of the Bricks straightforward, they were exactly what we required to meet both Fire Safety and Ventilation building requirements, as well as maintaining the aesthetics of the modern external façade. I couldn’t fault BEAM’s service; both helpful and professional. Thanks”
