Kilwaughter Minerals (incorporating K Rend, Kilwaughter Lime and K System brands) are market leaders in mineral and quarry processing since 1939. The company’s quarrying and production facilities occupy a 75-acre site in Larne, with product lines including calcium carbonate powders, limestone sands, aggregates and minerals.

Requirements

Within the Kilwaughter site, one of the main manufacturing factories produces a high quantity of fine dust as part of the production process. Through time this can cause a build up on surfaces, machinery, structural supports etc which in turn needs to be cleaned down or brushed manually by staff.

Following discussions and site visits from BEAM at the Kilwaughter site, it was agreed that a fixed Commercial Central Vacuum System would be the best general housekeeping vacuum solution to combat accumulation of dust throughout the factory, including collection of large amounts of very fine hygroscopic material, and would allow for simultaneous users to access the vacuum inlet points across all floors.

Solution

BEAM provided a heavy-duty centralised vacuum system with 18 No. strategically placed inlets servicing all 6 floors within the factory. To allow for the high volume of waste dust and debris being collected, a cyclonic pre-separator filter unit and heavy-duty collection skip was provided alongside the high-powered vacuum system. A range of 38mm and 50mm industrial lightweight vacuum hoses, tools and accessories on all floors allow for ease of use and deep cleaning of surfaces and ongoing general housekeeping.

Ongoing support and advice were offered to the Kilwaughter team who were undertaking the installation of over 300m of smooth flow high vacuum ductwork and fittings themselves. BEAM then commissioned the system and carried out a detailed demonstration and handover.

Benefits

With the introduction of the centralised house-keeping vacuum system, benefits include:
1. Healthier & cleaner work environment
2. Increase and improvement in productivity
3. More efficient and simplified work processes
4. Multiple-use simultaneously
5. Low maintenance costs

Project engineer with Kilwaughter Minerals, Stephen Vance commented,

From start to finish we were very impressed with the unrivalled industry knowledge, the high levels of professionalism and excellent customer service given to us by BEAM. The vacuum system has exceeded our expectations, Ciaran and Mark were an absolute pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended!”
