Whether your property is a block build or timberframe, it's important to know what stage of build a BEAM MVHR system needs to be installed.
After an MVHR system has been designed to suit your property, it is very important to agree final valve locations, and routes & duct locations prior to the installation start, in conjunction with other services and/or lighting design. Placement of intake and exhaust positions should also be determined prior to installation.
2 Plenum boxes (supply & exhaust external terminations) are to be placed in the gavel walls whilst being built, or 2-4 roof cowls are to be fitted onto the roof depending on MVHR model type. The plenum boxes or roof cowls will be supplied by BEAM but it is the responsibility of the owner/builder to install them.
If the MVHR unit is being located in the roofspace, it’s important the access hatch is large enough for the unit to fit through now & for future requirements.
Ducting is installed when the building is watertight, i.e the roof is on, windows are in and external doors are fitted. In block builds, ducting should be installed before other services are fitted below the concrete slab. A 150mm void below the concrete slab will allow ducting to be installed. A void of 100mm will mean you will have to convert to 204/60mm flat channel ducting. In timberframe builds, timber partition walls and floors must be in place and MVHR ducting should be installed before other services.
New builds absorb a lot of moisture during construction - keeping the heating system on and windows open will help to dry the house out. You may also use a dehumidifier. Your system can now be tested for airflow rates and system balancing. Handover & start up can only happen when the house is properly dried out.
